Is this an emergency? Here’s how to tell

It’s not always easy to know whether something needs urgent attention or can wait for a routine visit. That’s exactly what we’re here to help you figure out.

Our rule of thumb? If you’re concerned, we’re concerned. You know your pet better than anyone, and we’re always happy to chat things through and help you decide what’s best.

The big ones: Open wounds, active bleeding, seizures, collapse, breathing troubles, ingestion of something poisonous or toxic, or allergic reactions. If it’s an immediate “oh no” moment, get in touch as soon as you can.
Eye issues: Eyes are delicate little things, and we don’t mess around with them. If your bud has red, squinty or weepy eyes or if they’ve had any kind of eye trauma, get in touch asap.
Urinary issues: Struggling to pee, going way too often, having accidents, blood in the urine or just acting a little weird in the bathroom department? Urinary issues can escalate quickly and are often really uncomfortable for your pet, so it’s worth getting them checked sooner rather than later.
Signs of pain or discomfort: Whether it’s a clear limp or they’re just not themselves, you know your bud better than anyone. If they’re seeming sore, quiet, clingy, lethargic or just “off”, give us a call.
Gastro-intestinal troubles: Vomiting, diarrhoea, bloating, or blood in the stool can mean all kinds of things. The sooner we can take a look, the sooner we can ease their discomfort and give you some answers.
Skin, coat and ear concerns: Hot spots, rapid hair loss, oozing or pus, hives, facial swelling, or a bud who just can’t stop scratching and chewing are all worth a call. Ear infections, aural haematomas and head tilts too. These things can go from uncomfortable to really miserable quickly, so it’s always better to check in sooner rather than later.
